Location: Tucker Beach, Queenstown
Project Completion Date: February 2018
Company: Queenstown Trails Trust
This project involved the construction of approximately 1.5km of new cycle trail on behalf of the Queenstown Rotary Club. The trail was constructed to Grade 2 QLDC Cycle Trail Specification on road reserve and DOC reserve. Enabling works included the re-positioning of an existing pond which had been built on both private and council land.
The privacy of neighbouring residents was a sensitive aspect of the project, and formation of the trail through these sections had to prevent visibility of private property from trail users meaning significant earthworks was required to lower the trail level so that sight lines between trail users to the adjacent private properties were blocked.
Design and Construction of retaining structures became a requirement in order to enable access to a new bridge over the Arrow Irrigation System at one point on the trail.
Installation of a culvert crossing for access over an open stormwater channel was required, this included 2-3m high rock retaining walls/headwalls, to support the trail.
